Nothing deep to interpret from this. It's actually quite a normal phenomena, dating back to our time as apes. We developed this "reflex", to keep us from falling down from trees, and dying.

Yes, it is biological and mainly based on inner ear dynamics, like the similar factor that creates dizziness when awake. It's caused by RAS (Reticular Activating System). Even if one does not believe in evolution, it is still obvious it is biological and a result of RAS and the waking trigger, sometimes caused by a noise in the environment. People who want to "interpret" biological events solely caused by consciousness activation (or the many types of waking symbolism dreams utilize) make me want to run down the road tearing my hair out. I guess ignorance is bliss.
